Link UP Week: One Project At A Time

link up weekYep, I couldn’t leave you with only ONE link up post today! It is link UP week after all!

This next link party comes from A Bowl Full of Lemons. This is all about what’s been going on in or around your casa {i.e. what have you been working on?} New recipes? Redecorating? Being Crafty? Whatever project you’ve been working on, here is where you share it!

Did I mention I LOVE link ups? Because I do.

My recent project is one I’d been meaning to do for a while and finally got the time {and courage} to do it. We have a lovely little space under our steps that is constantly in disarray, so much so that we normally have it quarantined off so Keelin can’t get lost in the mess. At one point I kept my crafts under there but no matter how much I tried it would inevitably turn into a total mess. So when we moved the office downstairs into the living room I was able to take some of the clutter out and was determined to keep it clean and organized.

It stayed pretty clean for about a week but after the first time Z cleaned out the fish tank it pulled a Jekyll and Hyde transformation on us and returned to the unsatisfactory disaster zone. SO, when Keelin started to get more active and in need of a little space for her toys {not in the middle of the living room floor} I thought it would make the perfect little playnook for her. And Lord knows if it’s somewhere Keelin is going to be spending a lot of time I’m going to keep it free of dangerous clutter. So one day when Z was at work and The Bean was napping, I busted out the trash bags, vacuum, Swiffer duster, and got down to business. I’ve got to tell you, I gave myself more than one pat on the back for this epic success.

Here is the before, and I have to tell you it pains me looking at it again, to think that I let it sit like that for so long. BAD housewife {smacks back of hand}.

beforeAHHHH. Avert your eyes. Horrible I know.

Once I decided what was staying, what was going to the shed, what was headed to the attic, what was going to our room, and what was going in the trash, I had a lot less to work with. Thank the SWEET LORD.

There was still enough down there that we use on a regular basis {regular enough to not want to go to the attic each time we need it} and decided I would re-organize it all {again} and section off the space directly under the first set of steps. That way we could still utilize it as storage but wouldn’t have overflow into Keelin’s play nook.

Yes, that is a Rock Band drum set. And Yes, I do rock that Rock Band drum set.
So once I got everything cleaned, organized and sectioned off, I began the REAL fun of filling the nook with as much cozy, comfy, and fun stuff as it could stand. And this is the HAPPILY Cleaner After:

playnook after

Look at that and tell me you don’t want to spend the whole day snuggled up with that sweet elephant. Yeah, I know, it’s awesome. I’m really proud. And I’m even more proud that I’ve been able to keep it clean for over a month. Yes, it gets messy with her toys… but that’s what it’s for. She loves going into her little nook, looking through the window, snuggling with Phanny {the name I’ve given the elephant}, and playing with all of her toys. So even at the end of the day when some of her junk has trickled into the middle of the living room, I have a nice open area to put it all back in! And for those of you who are mommies worrying about that corner poking out toward the top right of the picture, she’s not nearly tall enough to hit it. And I’m pretty sure Z and I will successfully dull it with our own heads by the time she’s in danger of hurting herself.

The only problem is… now I want my own playnook.

Be sure you check out all the other great projects at A Bowl Full of Lemons and let me know if you joined in!

Until next time…

UFO sighting!

OK… I didn’t see any flying saucers or MYSTERIOUS lights, but I have a number of UFO’s hanging out around my house!

I’m talking about UnFinished Objects people!!! Seriously, how many projects have you jumped into lately that just didn’t get completed? And then instead of finishing project 1, you start on project 2 and the same slippery slope continues. One after another your UnFinished Objects continue to pile up! Well this is the week to check them off your TO DO list! What makes this week different from any other? It’s UFO DIY Challenge week!

UFO DIY Challenge

I caught wind of this from Lisha over at One House One Couple and knew, as I look around at TONS of UFOs, that I had to join in! Here’s the deal:

  • Finish one or more of your UnFinished Objects {big or small}, making sure you take pictures along the way.
  • You have THIS WEEK,  May 1st through May 7th, to share your Finished Object on your blog and link up at the UFO linky party!
  • And add the UFO button to your post!

And now for my most recent UFO… {and the hope that I can add a few more to my list of things NOT UnFinished!}

As you may remember from a few posts back, I’ve been on a bit of a TWINE kick, and by that I mean wrapping twine around just about everything I can find… especially if it used to be home to some kind of alcohol. 🙂

SO… I had this lovely twine army that just kept growing and growing and NOWHERE to put them.

Aren’t they cute! Like a twine family annual portrait session!

THEN I remembered that I have had three wall shelves sitting, collecting dust, in the corner of my craft nook for about a year. One plus one equals decorative brilliance people! SO… I hired one studly stud of a man to help me put the shelves up:

Once the shelves were in place it was only a matter of giving my twine family a new, spotlighted home!

Happy little twine family, relocated from underneath the coffee table to up on the wall. Love love love it!

My twine obsession hasn’t subsided yet so I will probably add some more twine balls {classy, right?} but I’m officially checking this UnFinished Object OFF my to do list! Officially finished! One down, about two dozen to go!

Until next time…

PLEASE join in the party and complete one {or some} of your UnFinished Objects!

Yep… I’m that mom

I can’t help it, I just can’t.

Any time there is a camera in reach and Keelin is doing something sweet {aka, doing nothing at all but being adorable}, I have to document said sweetness.

It’s not a problem, it’s a privilege!

I get to stare at her all day long and watch as she grows.

Who wouldn’t want to document every moment of that?

Not only am I that mom who takes a million pictures and videos… I’m also that mom who has her own blog and feels the need to share those pictures and videos with complete strangers because she doesn’t think it’s fair that the rest of the world should miss out on all the cuteness… even if it means totally embarrassing her kid later in life.

bwahahaha... Unhappy burping moment

You’re welcome.

Until next time…

I’m a little late getting this posted this morning, due mostly to the fact that my house is being GUTTED as I type. Yes, the universe had perfect {sarcasm} timing when it decided to give us a leak in our pipes right after Keelin was born. Now we have to have ALL the pipes in our house replaced and I’m spending the next three days with sweet, sweet George the plumber and his mysterious son who stares too much. HOORAY! I’m documenting the process as they go so you can all get a full understanding of the mess that is our house.

Regardless of my pipe chaos, I still managed to snag one stinkin cute picture of the little one.

Bye bye socks... hello adorable hairpiece! Compliments of my dear friend Allison and her fabulous ROWE BOWS {link at the bottom of this post}

This week has been filled with all sorts of adventures for Keelin and I think the face she’s making in this week’s picture speaks to one event in particular… her first DIAPER BLOWOUT!

I’ve been anticipating this grand event and it finally happened. Last night while hunkered down in front of the boob tube with the hubs, Keelin BLEW OUT HER DIAPER! Where was she sitting, you might ask? On my stomach, that’s where! In one swift moment I heard a loud fart noise, felt a rumble and my stomach got a few degrees warmer. Z and I both stared at each other in disbelief of the sheer power of this tiny girl’s poop and I managed to get her up before anything seeped through her pants. Because it eventually did. Seep through her pants. Out the side of her diaper, coating the edge of her gender neutral “I love hugs” onesie that makes her looks slightly like a boy, and through her adorable light blue pantaloons. That, ladies and gentlemen, is talent!

Outside of her epic sharting skills, the little bean also went on her first shopping trip! My friend Andrea {you may remember her from here and here… and can find her own collection of witty shenanigans here} was kind enough to come by the house and help me go grocery shopping on Friday. It was bitter cold and annoyingly windy so I was definitely grateful that she could come help me maneuver the cart and  Keelin’s carrier. A friend of mine from work told me a horror story about a woman she knows whose baby tragically died when the carrier fell OFF the top of her shopping cart on the way out to her car {yeah… scary} so needless to say I was overly paranoid and wanted an extra pair of hands for our first outing. Not to mention I had plans to go to the Asian market {Super H Mart… amazing} for some cheap produce and that place is always swarming with people… who speak very little english… and often pretend that they don’t know what “excuse me” means. Jerks. She didn’t make a peep the whole trip and was an absolute angel! VICTORY!

I’m also happy to announce that Keelin is currently on day 5 of successful breastfeeding! Before now I’ve needed to pump and give her a bottle but she’s getting the hang of it and has been boob lovin’ and bottle free! VICTORY part deux!

And last but not least on the list of Keelin’s totally awesome adventures comes in the form of NEWBORN PICTURES! We weren’t planning on getting pictures taken since I take about a million a day anyway, but one of Z’s coworkers informed us of a friend of his who is not only FANTASTIC, but in the process of building up her portfolio and in need of some newborn shots. JACKPOT!  She came over on Sunday and we had an absolute blast. She has such a fantastic eye for photography, and being a mother of two, was totally at ease dealing with the posing and adjusting of a newborn. She sent us this “sneak peek” on Monday and all I have to say is… Anne Geddes, eat your heart out!

Can you handle the sweetness???
I can’t wait to see the rest of them and I’ll be sure to share my favs!

That’s about it for Keelin’s 3 week update!

Until next time…
